NDP 2013 - Fun & Excitement Over Land, Sea, Sky

National Day Parade 2013
Marina Bay Floating Platform
South, Singapore
09 August 2013

The typical National Day Parade consists of both a day segment and a night segment. Starting officially during the TV broadcast at 1745 hours, the day segment allowed participants to use a lot of the props found in the abundant goodie bag.
This year's goodie bag...

Emcees and cheerleaders doing a good job of warming up the audience...

Doing the Marina Wave!

The Red Lion parachutists were not able to make a jump due to the excessive cloud cover.
This was how murky it looked when not covered the clouds...

A few attention-seeking White-Bellied Sea Eagles (Haliaeetus Leucogaster)...

A MediaCorp cameraman hard at work...

An explosion of coloured powder to end the segment...

The simulated attack started with a fly-in of AH-64D Apache Longbow Attack Helicopters...

Followed by the Bionix II Infantry Fighting Vehicles,
led by Captain Vivien Tan in a Leopard Main Battle Tank from 48 SAR...

When armed gunmen in ski masks terrorized the city,
it was the Police Tactical Unit (PTU) in Armoured Personnel Carriers that saved the day...

Often, when national security is threatened, there is a need to limit initial exposure to the enemy -
with Self-Propelled Howitzer 1 Primus and High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS)...

Other times, striking first has its advantages -
The versatile Mk II Light Strike Vehicle is light enough to be airlifted into any battle scene...

The Civil Defence Force is the first line response for civil crises with ambulances,
Red Scorpion 3-Wheeler Fire Bikes and Red Rhino Light Fire Attack Vehicles.
Making its first appearance is the Compressed Air Foam Fire Engine
which eliminates fuel-based fires efficiently...

Showcasing the naval capabilities of the Singapore Police Force and the Republic of Singapore Navy, a rogue Protector Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) was neutralized by a fleet comprising Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIB), PK Class Interceptors and PJ Class Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats...

When the path is cleared, the troops enter in a Terrex Infantry Carrier Vehicle (ICV) -
"Unleashing" the cast of Ah Boys To Men and a whole troop of future defenders in a catchy rendition of the movie theme song...

The Parade Regimental Sergeant Major MWO Chua Hock Guan from HQ Army CE Group shares his story before giving the command to start the march-in...

Looking out... before the barges with the cannons cruise in...

The drummers from the SAF Military Band gave a toy soldier-like performance before the SAF Colours 1WO Neo Boon Kwee march in...

A sea of red and white welcoming the political leaders...

The aerial flypast with the Apaches, Chinook, F15s and F16s...

The cannons and rifles proved a bit too much for the little ones...

Marching out...
