Sunrise Above The Kelong

In a coast not far from urban HDB flats, the sun rose above a kelong in the middle of the ocean. It was a fiery red fireball that overcame the dark grey clouds and cast its vermillion light across the sea...



As the sky lost its orange shade to reveal a fine blue cast, small cotton wool clouds can be seen. A lone canoeist rows into the golden path cast by the sun's glow...

Romantic New Year Countdown By The Sea

It was a cold rainy day. It had rained most of the morning with the rain continuing into the afternoon and evening. The water deluge looked set to continue throughout the night. Hmmm, does not augur well for the upcoming new year!

Fortunately... the rain stopped in late evening and Merlion Wayfarer was set to step out to celebrate the countdown festivities.

Her criteria for the countdown this year were simple:

• Far from the Madding Crowd (Good title, Thomas Gray & Thomas Hardy!)
• Yet a place where one could still soak in the excitement of a countdown

She ventured along the roads in search of one which is not jammed with people with party poppers, blaring music and flashing disco lights. Finally, one was found at a cosy beach in the romance of the night.

With the faint sound of the countdown from the revellers behind, the countdown started. Seconds later, the signal flares from nearby parked ships and the blaring of fog horns blast in the New Year by the sea. In the distance, the faraway blasts from Marina Bay fireworks added to the festivities...

A truly romantic way to start a brand new year...

Journey To The East

The first day of September seemed to be a good day to wake up early to see sunrise. At 0600h, when the skies were still pitch black, Merlion Wayfarer set off on her journey to the east...

 

Today happened to be a cloudy day, and her hopes were not high as she looked out of the window. (Haiz!)

Monet-like clouds in the lightening skies...

Early morning boats zip past to the kelongs nearby...

Birds are up early too...

 

A lone stroller picking up shells on the shores for breakfast...

 

And... there is always a silver lining in the clouds. And at 0730 hours, the golden orb broke through the cumulus clouds and created an expanse of brilliant yellow which reflected off the sea in a golden stream.

  

It was Low Tide In The North-East when Merlion Wayfarer encountered Nature's Sonic Booooom at the beach. Did she get stunned?
