July 2014
Outside the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall, these workers were repairing the steps of the fountain...
It was not an easy task -The heat of the sun was relentless...
They had to bend over awkward positions for long hours at a time...
They made do with pails if they can find any...
Where no tools avail, they used their bare hands on soil and fertilizer...
In the afternoon, they were still there...
While Sir Stamford Raffles watches over them...
Let us not forget their hard work and resilience.

In the past, the 900-seater Victoria Theatre had an less-than-ideal line-of-sight with a detached setting, congestion within the courtyard and lower quality acoustics in the balcony seats. The new theatre was refurbished with a seating of 614 and provided for the flexibility of an extended forestage or orchestra pit.
Plush seats with a good view of the stage...
Performers readying themselves on the stage...
Children jumping and bouncing on the seats...
The newly-installed wire mesh railing for the Circle seats...
Recycled cast iron components extracted from the original classic red chairs were used to form horizontal bands across the acoustic timber walls.

Key features are tastefully blended into the decoration
- speakers, spotlights, thermostats, aircon vents...
Two rehearsal rooms - one for music and one for dance and drama were created above the theatre box to provide more incubation space for in-progress works, to enhance the use of the venue to promote the arts. A new service basement was built outside the building, beneath Old Parliament Lane. In addition, two levels of basement below the theatre box were inserted for back-of-house programs.
Located on the second floor of the theatre, the foyer was designed like
a modernized floating Rubik's Cube to contrast against the building's neo-classical facade...
