Big Walk 2012 - Mass People Exodus

The New Paper Big Walk is a walking event organised by The New Paper (TNP), a newspaper published by Singapore Press Holdings. First held on 16 June 1991 at the National Stadium, the event was attended by about 7,000 participants. Thereafter, it was held almost annually except in 2009.

Within the narrow strip outside Central Clarke Quay, the Big Walk was kicked off. The last members of the tailback took a long time to reach the starting point...

The TNP Big Walk was officially recognised as The World’s Largest Walk by the Guinness Book of Records when it celebrated its 10th anniversary on 21 May 2000, with an overwhelming 77,500 participants.

Why not walk indoors in the shade?
Participants could take part as individuals or in groups. Many came with babies, toddlers or pets in tow, with some even dressing up in superhero or fruit costumes.Registered participants received goodie bags and qualified for lucky draws with attractive prizes such as cars, cameras and watches to be won. Events, such as health talks and free health screenings, were also organised for participants.

Exploring the booths and stalls at the Marina Barrage...

The edition in 2012 began from The Central shopping mall at Clarke Quay and ended at Marina Barrage, where the Singapore G1 green lifestyle carnival was held. In line with the theme of green living that year, participants received S$700 worth of vouchers instead of the usual goodie bags.
