Poh Cheu Hand Made Soon Kway - Kueh Tucked Away

Poh Cheu (宝洲) Hand Made Soon Kway
Bukit Merah Lane 1, Alexandra Village
South, Singapore
October 2013

Located in a corner of the Alexandra Village in heartland Bukit Merah, Poh Cheu is tucked away in a kopitiam which seems quietly nondescript - except for the snaking queue leading all the way outside its premises.

The long queue late at lunchtime, 20-30 people strong...

The stall is manned by about 5 staff, all wearing its trademarked T-shirt. Two of them sat in a corner table, making rolling wads of paste into fillings for ang ku kueh.

The 10 flavours of ang ku kueh - greeen bean, salted bean, green tea, mango, red bean, coconut, black sesame, durian, yam, peanut...

The prices of the ang ku kueh at 80c each are a bit pricey. Despite the ample filling (i.e. very little skin), the kueh is super oily. The artificial flavours (durian, green tea, mango) taste a tad artificial. Merlion Wayfarer recommends sticking to the "more original" flavours of peanut and red bean.
