Gifts From The Heart At Takashimaya

On Friday 08 November 2019, Takashimaya Department Store unveiled an exhibition showcasing Christmas designs from 19 teams of students from Temasek Polytechnic’s School of Design.

In a first-time collaboration with Temasek Polytechnic’s School of Design, Takashimaya invited these third-year students to imagine its much-anticipated Christmas packaging for 2019, in line with the campaign theme "Gifts from the Heart". 

"It really is the thought that counts. Our theme of ‘Gifts from the Heart’ embodies that sentiment and encourages our shoppers to put thought into their gift selection, to seek out something truly special for every special person in their life. It multiplies the joy for the giver and the recipient, and makes the whole season more meaningful."

In the spirit of giving, Takashimaya has contributed a generous project fee that goes towards Temasek Polytechnic’s School of Design project grant set up to support Design students requiring financial assistance.

The exhibition will be situated at The Atrium, Level 1 of Takashimaya Shopping Centre, and remain open to all until 21 November, and showcases all 19 of the submitted designs, one of which has been adapted for the store’s Christmas wrappers and shopping bags.

The opening was accompanied by the spectacular light-up of its tallest indoor Christmas tree to-date. Takashimaya’s indoor Christmas tree has become a favourite photo-taking spot for locals and tourists alike. Over the years, it has "grown' to its current height of 16.8 metres. This spectacular Christmas Tree will remain in the Atrium until Wednesday 25 December 2019.

 

Every year, a team of part-time staff are trained in the quintessentially Japanese art of gift-wrapping. It’s another small way in which Takashimaya strives to thank its loyal shoppers.Shoppers enjoy complimentary gift wrapping specially designed by Temasek Polytechnic’s School of Design students with any purchase at Takashimaya Department Store and Takashimaya Square at B2. 

The winning design encompassed the bold use of of geometric shapes gives a dynamic pixelated feel that is original in local Christmas packaging. The bright and cheery tones of the warm colour palette emphasizes the heart of the holiday season, one marked by generousity, sharing and giving....

Gardens By The Bay - Celebrate Life At Christmas Wonderland 2017

The fourth edition of Christmas Wonderland, Singapore’s biggest annual yuletide fair, welcomes all visitors from today till 26 December 2017, from 4pm to 11pm daily at Gardens by the Bay.

The magnificent Luminarie - sculptures of light, a mainstay of the event, will feature 80 handcrafted light sculptures with brand new designs at this year’s Christmas Wonderland. The Luminarie by Namaste Europa SA are magnificent sculptures of light handmade by skilled Italian craftsmen using white wood from the south of Italy. For the first time, the event will feature a 13m-tall Christmas Tree as well as the tallest Luminarie in Southeast Asia, the Spalliera.

Merry Medley at Gardens By The Bay

The Noble Fir (Abies procera) is a western North American fir that is tall and beautifully-symmetrical, with blue-green needles turned upward, exposing the lower branches. Its ability to last for a long time and its stiff branches make it an excellent Christmas tree. Further afield, the huge tower lay amidst snow at the centre of the Flower Field depicting yuletide scenes with Nutcracker Dolls, ballerinas, angelic choirs...

Looking like their true lily cousins, the Amaryllis are bulbs with trumpet-shaped flowers. They come in a dazzling array of colours, sometimes combining shades of pink or red, with white. Some of these flowers have a single row of petals (single flower form), while others have a few layers (double flower form)…

According to German folklore, the Nutcracker at night comes alive to defeat the evil Mouse King in battle, brings good luck to each household…

Modelled after the Kobe Luminarie, a light festival held in Kobe Japan to commemorate the Great Hanshin Earthquake, these  elegant Italian-designed light structures illuminate their way forward, symbolizing an everlasting message of peace and hope...

Merry Medley Garden Trail

Join daily “Ask Me” tours as they share fascinating botanical facts and anecdotes about the floral display from 11 November 2016 to 05 January 2017 at 11am and 3pm daily (1-6pm on 03-04 December).

Tours last approximately 15 minutes and available free on a first-come, first-served basis. To participate, gather at the “Ask Me” poster near the Flower Field. Tours will begin when a group of at least five is assembled.
