Trick Eye Museum Singapore opened its doors at Resorts World Sentosa’s Waterfront recently. Merlion Wayfarer was honoured to visit its first overseas venture in Singapore.

Trick Eye Museum Korea first opened in December 2010 in Hongdae, the centre of Seoul's nouveau art hub. Featuring 3D art, its location in the hub of popular cultural events attracted a stream of young art lovers. All works in Trick Eye museum create illusions which allow the guests to perceive a three-dimensional object or scene. 


Perennial favourite - angel on a bicycle...

Featuring a good collection of 2D & 3D art and sculptures, the works are specially designed for photo opportunities. Consequently, these radical forms of art which require the active participation of the viewers became a draw for tourists. Trick Eye has seen grown to be one of the best must-visit attractions for tourists visiting Korea.

The Singapore museum features about 100 paintings and optical illusion installations with more than 50 artworks were created specially and adapted for the Singapore. This includes original pieces such as Merlion Boat and Horse Racing.

The exhibits are easier to pose with - even for toddlers...

Operating from 1000-2100 hours daily, visitors to the museum will journey  through six themed zones, titled World of Masterpieces, Safari Kingdom, Stars of Circus, Dreams of  Fairytale, Love in Winter, and Adventure Discovery.

Besides original artworks, the museum will also be home to popular art pieces replicated from the South Korean gallery, including Angel’s Wings, Moon over the Sky and Human Cannonball.

To complement the opening of Trick Eye Museum Singapore, more Korean-themed F&B and retail concepts will also open at the Resort’s Waterfront, creating a Korean cluster. Opening in the third quarter of 2014, Insadong Korea Town will feature a Korean market-place concept offering a variety of authentic Korean F&B specialties, street food, as well as hand-made Korean trinkets, cosmetics and accessories.

Ben & Jerry's - ChunkFest 2014

Ben & Jerry’s ChunkFest is back for the seventh year - this time at the picturesque Gardens by the Bay.


For the first time, ChunkFest 2014 will feature Sundae School as part of Ben & Jerry’s global Join Our Core initiative to empower the next generation of ethical business minds. A carnival of local social innovation heroes from various fields will be featured sharing stories that will inspire, entertain and get attendees thinking outside the daily grind - all over a scoop of ice cream.


Enjoy an ice cream picnic at The Meadows with a smorgasboard of 20 flavours - taste the newly launched Cores ice cream, exclusive flavours brought in from US for ChunkFest only and some of Singapore favourites. There will also be games, live music, and a moovie screening under the stars.

Science Centre Singapore - Lantern Carnival By The Lake

For the first time in 37 years, Science Centre Singapore (SCS) is hosting the inaugural edition of Lantern Carnival by the Lake, where dozens of lanterns will illuminate the Science Centre’s premises.

     
This year’s inaugural event taps on a child’s creative imagination in extraterrestrial beings, with 22 human-sized alien and UFO-inspired lanterns lining the scenic lake by the Science Centre.
       



Other highlights include lantern-making workshops, liquid nitrogen demonstrations and star-gazing sessions:

A talk with the originator, Mr Lim, who hails from Fujian, revealed that he gets the inspiration from the creativity of children...


Having organized past runs of majestic lantern fests at the adjacent Chinese Garden, 
he was seeking for a location and ideas for this year...

His son gave him the idea to develop the theme on aliens which have intrigued and fascinated children for eons. This was also in line with the scientific and exploratory theme of the location...

The lanterns were inspired by cartoon characters and Western movies...
